Campbell's Chunky Healthy Request New England Clam Chowder... m' m' bad...

I love New England Clam Chowder. Being on a perpetual low-fat, low sodium diet I was very happy to run across Campbell's Chunky Healthy Request New England Chowder. Until I got home and took a bite.

It is 97% fat free and has 45% less sodium, which is a good thing. However, either the can I purchased is getting ready to be on the recall list, or it simply tastes bad.

I tried a bite and grimaced. Knowing Campbell's soups I thought it must be MY taste buds. I sipped some water and tried again. Then I tossed the bowl down the disposal.

I can't begin to describe the taste. It was not good. I drank some soda to get the taste out of my mouth it was that horrible.

I know not to expect a taste that matches the 'real deal' which has so many calories just looking at it adds inches to my hips. But I did think it would be palatable. Especially since I've had other Healthy Request soups and thought they were great.

My suggestion if you're craving New England style clam chowder? Make it yourself and cut whatever corners you can or eat a smaller portion of the regular clam chowder.

I agree completely with you, however to my dismay this was what I brought as my lunch for the day! This soup has a horrible aftertaste, and after looking at the exp. date I think this is just how it is supposed to taste! This soup is just horrible, so i recommend you do not try it-while tempting-dont do it!!!!

TOO BAD I DIDN'T READ THESE COMMENTS PRIOR TO PURCHASING AND BRINGING THE SOUP FOR MY LUNCH. I AM IN FULL AGREEMENT ---- I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FLAVOR....YUKKY, BITTER(?) TASTE!!!
OH WELL -- MY CALORIE INTAKE WILL CERTAINLY BE DECREASED IF I DON'T FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO EAT, BECAUSE I CERTAINLY CAN'T EAT A FULL SERVING OF THAT STUFF

I agree...I thought that it might taste half-way alright when i first bought it...but I am sorely disappointed. It is definitely not one I will purchase again, EVER.

They are by far the worst canned soup I ever had!!! I thought it was just the first can, but I just made the second...it taastes like crap! I checked their website, and it seems like they took it off their product list...LOL!!!

You're all crazy, I think it's great. Salt and fat and just make things taste like salt and fat. With this soup you get the full flavor of the contents: the clams, the potatos, etc. I never see clam chowder that actually has a bit of a clam taste, always just full of fatty broth.

yep, its really really bad... Salt and pepper - liberally - make it palatable, but our store doesn't even offer the original anymore... so sad. It used to be one of my favorite cold weather treats.

Agreed! I accidentally picked up the Healthy Request version of my favorite Clam Chowder. Bleh! It's thin and the liquid just tastes like bad potatoes. I will certainly not make the mistake of accidentally picking this up again.

What was Campbells thinking?

I can't believe it. I just ate a can of this stuff (Campbells Chunky New England Clam Chowder-Healthy Request)not 2 hours ago. I never noticed the Healthy Request on the label. I used to love Campbells New England Clam Chowder. It had very litte taste and appeared to be very thin. In short it did not taste good. I checked the label and the can (lot yb2233-pc 11119, Nov. 11, 2011 exp. date). I am dealing with a mild case of diarrhea right now. I thought I would check on line to see if there was a bad batch and found this site. I'm not sure I want to eat anymore New England Clam Chowder. I still have a small can of condensed in the pantry. I guess Healthy Request is not very healthy BC in Idaho

I'm not alone. I have tried several different kinds of healthy request. They all taste terrible!
